High Radon Levels Prompt Homeowners to Mitigate Before Selling

After building their home in 1994, these homeowners are preparing to sell and move closer to their children and grandchildren in the Des Moines area. Following their realtor’s advice, they decided to address radon before listing the property. Two recent charcoal test kits averaged approximately 10 pCi/L, well above the EPA’s recommended action level of 4 pCi/L. With their grandchildren spending time in the home regularly, creating a healthier indoor environment was another important motivation. The project calls for a single-point radon mitigation system routed from the sump toward the northeast side of the home, just behind the garage, with a sealed sump lid. This proactive step helps address radon concerns before the home changes hands.
